When I play guitar my fingertips hurt too. So, one of the many reasons I prefer bass is because the strings are thicker and softer than guitar strings.

Yes, you can play …
Yes, you can play bass lines and riffs on the four lowest-pitched strings of a guitar. Some people are very proficient at this.
However, playing bass on the guitar will be an octave higher than most bass lines and will therefore not quite fill the low register.

Great thing, you’re very helpfull. i actually don’t have a bass yet, but soon i’ll get one. But anyway i have a little doubt. I already play guitar (wich makes everything lots easier) but when i started i had a problem with the pain in the left hand fingertips and once the bass strings are ticker i would like to know if the problem will repeat (if yes, is too hard to get used to it?) or the guitar fingering is ‘enough’. Again, thanks a lot by this, you don’t have an idea of how you help people.

Hello and thanks for your comment and request.
It is best if you go to a music store a get a few demos.
Try Squire, Yamaha, Ibanez, and Warwick. Of course there are more, but this is a starting point for you to begin your comparisons.

Hello Maxene Thanks for your questions.
My first four Beginner bass lessons on You Tube are a good staring point. With the nature of the internet, it is probably impossible to find sequential beginner bass lessons for free.
I offer subscription-based step-by-step Beginner bass lessons through my website (link above right). When purchasing a bass, as a girl it is especially important to consider the weight and body shape of the instrument – more petite is usually more comfortable.
